Broke-broke

adjective BROKE-broke broːk broːk

Also spelled broke broke, stone-broke, bruk-bruk

Completely broke; without a cent — the reduplication of 'broke' driving home that there is no money at all. 'Mi broke-broke till payday' means I'm flat broke until payday. 'Stone broke' says the same. It marks the very bottom of the empty pocket, when even 'a smalls' is out of reach.

  • Mi cyaan come, mi broke-broke.

    I can't come; I'm completely broke.

  • End a di month, everybody broke-broke.

At the end of the month, everybody's flat broke.

  • Him stone broke, nuh even bus fare.

He's dead broke, not even bus fare.

Reduplication of 'broke' (penniless) for emphasis; 'stone broke'. See [[bruk-pocket]], [[bruk]].

Completely broke/penniless ('stone broke'). See [[bruk-pocket]], [[bruk]].
