A bird — the general word for any small flying bird, from the sparrow to the kling-kling. It runs through country talk of weather signs and duppy lore, and turns up in kite-flying ('cyattie') season when children read the wind. In some slang, borrowed from abroad, 'bird' can loosely mean a young woman.

  • A bird a sing pon di guinep tree.

A bird is singing on the guinep tree.

  • Di bird dem wake mi every mawnin.

The birds wake me every morning.

From English 'bird'. See [[cyattie]], [[kling-kling]].

Any small bird; occasionally slang for a young woman.
