Big man

Meaning
An adult male seen as mature, self-reliant and to be taken seriously; also a man of status, wealth or influence. It is both a marker of respect and a standard by which behaviour is judged, so it can be praise or a pointed rebuke.

Rebuke: appeals to maturity expected of a 'big man'.
