Bad wud

noun BAD WUD bad wʌd mild

Also spelled bad-wud, bad word, cuss wud, swear wud

A curse word; a profanity or swear word — 'wud' being 'word'. To 'use bad wud' or 'cuss bad wud' is to swear. Jamaican has its own powerful set of these (the 'claat' words and others), and using them, especially in front of elders, in church, or in public, is a serious breach of manners. 'Cuss wud' and 'swear wud' mean the same.

  • Nuh use no bad wud inna front a di elders.

Don't use any curse words in front of the elders.

  • Him cuss bad wud when him vex.

He swears curse words when he's angry.

  • Pickney mustn't repeat bad wud.

    Children mustn't repeat swear words.

From 'bad' + 'wud' (word); a curse/swear word. See [[raas]], [[bloodclaat]].
