Meaning
Impertinent talking back — answering an elder or someone in authority with a cheeky, argumentative reply instead of obeying. To 'give back-chat' is to sass or contradict, a serious breach of the manners children are raised with. As a verb, to 'back-chat' someone is to answer them rudely.
