Meaning
Ashamed or embarrassed — feeling shame or losing face over something. Closely tied to the very strong Jamaican sense of 'shame', to be ashamed is to be disgraced, humiliated, or made to feel small in front of others, and 'yuh nuh shame?' is a sharp reproach. Being shamed publicly is deeply felt in a culture where reputation and 'face' matter greatly, and much of manners and behaviour turns on avoiding it.
