A braid, and to braid — dividing the hair into sections and weaving them together. A girl's hair is 'plait up' into two or more plaits for school, often with ribbons or 'bubbles' (bobbles) on the ends. As a verb, to 'plait' the hair is to braid it. Plaiting is a daily grooming ritual and a bonding time between mother and child.
