Meaning
The chigoe flea — a tiny sand flea that burrows into the skin, most often under the toenails or in the sole of the foot, swells as it fills with eggs, and causes an itchy, painful sore. A 'jigga' has to be carefully dug out with a pin or needle before it festers, a familiar bit of country and barefoot-childhood misery. To 'have jigga' is to be infested, and the word is also used scornfully of a dirty, neglected foot.
