Meaning
Harvest season — the time of year when a crop is reaped, historically and especially the sugar-cane harvest when the estates were busy cutting and grinding cane. Crop-time meant hard work but also cash and plenty; the phrase carries the rhythm of the agricultural year and the bustle of reaping.
