String vest

noun STRING VEST strɪŋ vɛst

Also spelled string-vest, mesh merino, mesh vest

A man's mesh or netted undershirt — the loose, open-weave 'string' vest worn next to the skin to stay cool in the heat, and often worn on its own as everyday wear by working men and older gents. A cousin of the plain 'marina' (vest), the string vest with its big holes lets the air through, a practical choice in the Jamaican climate.
