Meaning
A jersey, pullover, or knit top — a warm upper garment, and by extension, in some use, any casual shirt or top. You pull on a ganzy when the night turns cool up in the hills, or wear one over a merino (vest). From 'guernsey', the knitted fisherman's sweater, it is the everyday word for a jumper or jersey, and it belongs, with 'merino', 'marina', and 'string-vest', to the plain, homely vocabulary of ordinary Jamaican dress, naming the warm top reached for against the chill of an evening or a mountain morning.
