Meaning
A fried dumpling — a small round of flour dough fried golden and crisp outside, soft within. A breakfast and anytime staple eaten with ackee and saltfish, callaloo, or a piece of fried fish. 'Fried dumpling' and 'johnny-cake' are used interchangeably; the boiled version is simply a 'dumpling'.
