Meaning
A tag added to the end of a statement to seek agreement or confirmation — 'right?', 'isn't it?', 'don't you agree?'. 'It hot today, ehn?' invites the listener to agree that it's hot. Nasal and rising, 'ehn?' turns a statement into a gentle question, and a nodding 'ehn' or 'mm-hmm' in reply confirms it. One of the small but constant markers of Jamaican conversation.
