Meaning
Hard water crackers — the plain, dry, round biscuit that is a Jamaican pantry staple. Split and buttered, topped with Solomon Gundy or 'pear' (avocado), or eaten with sardine, mackerel, or cheese, crackers are cheap, filling everyday food. Excelsior and similar tins are found in every shop; 'water crackers' names the classic hard variety.
