Meaning
Covetous and grasping — filled with envy and greed for what other people have. To be 'red yeye' (red-eye) is to look on someone else's possessions or success with a jealous, grudging craving, always wanting what isn't yours and begrudging others their good fortune. The vivid image of the eye reddened with envy sets it among the strong Jamaican words for greed and jealousy, close to 'bad-mind', 'grudgeful', and 'cubbitch', and it is a real reproach for the covetous spirit that cannot bear to see another prosper.
