Clash

Meaning
A musical battle between two or more sound systems, or between deejays, where each side tries to outplay the other with the best tunes, dubplates and crowd reaction. The winner is decided by the audience, and a clash can make or break a sound's reputation.

Origin
From English 'clash', a violent meeting, applied to the competitive face-off between sounds that has been part of the culture since the 1950s.

Also used as a verb ('di sounds a clash'). Victory is about crowd response, not volume alone.
