Meaning
A bogeyman — a wicked, sinister figure said to steal or harm children, invoked by adults to frighten little ones into behaving ('di black-heart man will get yuh'). By extension, the term names any cruel, evil-hearted person, one whose heart is 'black' with malice. Belonging to the folklore of childhood fears alongside the ol' hige and the duppy, the black-heart man is the shadowy threat used to enforce good conduct, and the phrase carries into adult use as a byword for genuine wickedness.
